Make: An I Spy Bottle for Your Next Road Trip

Summer is coming and that means road trips. If you prefer to keep your car entertainment old-school and screen-less, this homemade I Spy game should be right up your alley. It is easy to make, and you can use items sitting around your home. It's a great way to entertain busy little hands when you're out and about, whether you're sitting at the doctor's office, waiting in a restaurant or driving in the car. I spy some fun on the horizon!

Materials:
Empty water bottle
Dry rice
Small trinkets such as beads, shells, pom-poms, charms, paper clips, buttons, dice, coins, etc.
1. Gather trinkets from around your home; look for a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Anything goes, as long as the items can fit through the bottle opening.
2. Fill the bottle with the dry rice and trinkets, leaving enough room for the treasures to move around. Put the bottle cap back on.
3. Toddlers will enjoy just shaking and rotating the bottle to see what's in it, but you can challenge older children to find all the items that are red, or that start with the letter "C," etc. It's helpful to write down a list of all the items in the bottle so you can come up with the games, and know once your child has found them all.
