Virginia Avenue Park hosts a jubilant celebration of justice and liberty in commemoration of the announcement of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans who lived in the former Confederacy - two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

This year's theme is "Coming Together in Appreciation, Reconciliation, and Commemoration".

Local Blues artist Sonny Green kicks off the event with a lively set of classic soul and blues; Chazz Ross leads his traditional participatory drumming performance. Other performers include Victory Boyd, Arise Roots, and the American all-female pop/R&B band  KLYMAXX featuring Cheryl Cooley  

The festival also includes the CRJ Live Community Stage, a childrens area, food vendors, community information booths and cultural arts marketplace.
