Redondo Beach is a sunny seaside gem offering a wealth of family-friendly fun. It may even feel like a vacation within a staycation. This South Bay favorite locale is perfect for a day with kids. It's more laid-back and less busy than, say, Santa Monica if you want to enjoy a day at the ocean without crowds and tourists. 

From sandy beaches and the kid-favorite Seaside Lagoon to a dinosaur museum, playgrounds, and glass-bottom boat rides, there is no shortage of ways to play, explore, and make lasting memories. Whether your family loves nature, adventure, or laid-back coastal vibes, Redondo Beach offers something for every little explorer.

Aquatic Adventures in Redondo Beach for Kids


Seaside Lagoon is an ideal and safe place for little ones to enjoy the water. 

1. Seaside Lagoon 

If your kids are young, the Seaside Lagoon offers an enclosed sand and saltwater play space with a kids' playground, a snack bar, volleyball courts, lifeguards—and warm water!

2. RAT Beach 

Spending a day at the beach in Redondo is a given. South of the Redondo Pier, RAT (that's Redondo and Torrance) Beach is quieter and less tourist-y than other nearby beaches. Swim, bodysurf, or just relax while the kids wear themselves out!

3. Glass Bottom Boats 

Sure you can see some sea life from the pier—but visit the Glass Bottom Boats to go under the sea and get a view from below. 

4. Redondo Beach Whale Watch

Get on the water to spot sea life in the wild. Go whale watching at Redondo Beach. The prime time for whale watching in the South Bay is from December through April. 

5. Redondo Sportfishing

Do the kids like fishing? Take to the ocean and try sportfishing! Then enjoy that fish Half- and three-quarter-day trips are available.

6. Pedal Port Redondo Beach

There are so many ways to enjoy the water at Redondo Beach. One of those ways is to rent a kayak or pedal boat and paddle around the harbor.

8. Veterans Park 

For a playground next to the ocean, head to Veterans Park. There are two play structures—one for older kids and one for younger kids, both of which have sea and pirate theming.

Get back to nature at Hopkins Wilderness Park. 

9. Hopkins Wilderness Park

You might not think of camping in the wilderness when it comes to Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach is an 11-acre nature preserve where families can immerse themselves in conservation and outdoor learning. Redondo Beach. 

10. Anderson Park 

For a fun park day, Anderson Park has a huge play structure, basketball and tennis courts, and lots of large grassy areas.

12. Wonder of Dinosaurs 

For a dino-mite experience with dinosaur exhibits, bounce houses, and indoor mini golf in Los Angeles, head to Wonder of Dinosaurs for a fun indoor experience for kids of all ages. 

13. South Play 

South Play is an indoor play space in Redondo Beach known for birthday parties. However, they do have open play on weekdays from Tuesday - Friday, where kids can play in a giant ball pit and jump in a bounce house. 

14. South Bay Galleria 

In addition to Wonder of Dinosaurs which is located in the South Bay Galleria, another reason to visit is the free monthly Kids Club. On the first Tuesday of every month from 6-7pm, kids can enjoy crafts and entertainment.

15. South Bay Art Department

Teens and kids can let out their inner creativity by taking an art class at South Bay Art Department.

16. Redondo Beach Historical Museum and Heritage Court 

Step back in time and learn about Redondo Beach history on a self-guided tour at the Redondo Beach Historical Museum and Heritage Court.

17. Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center 

Immerse yourself in the performing arts with a musical or the LA Ballet at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. 

18. Redondo Beach Public LIbrary 

The Redondo Beach Public Library offers free events for both children and teens from storytime to LEGO club. There's something for everyone at the library, in addition to shelves stacked with tons of books.

19. Wanna Chill 

Kids will love the Hawaiian shave ice at Wanna Chill. If shave ice isn't your thing and you don't feel like trekking to Disneyland, you can opt for a Dole Whip.

A restaurant with a separate game room for kids? Yes, please. The game room is best for kids ages 5 and up. It has Televisions, arcade games, tabletop games, and more. It's supervised, too!

24. Kings Harbor 4th of July Fireworks

Spend the day at the Redondo Beach July 4th celebration—get your tickets early. Swimming at the seaside lagoon, kids' arts and crafts and other activities, kids' parade, music, and fireworks show are all included. Book cruise tickets and get the best view in town!
