Tips for Bringing Kids to Fireworks Shows

Fireworks shows are a special kind of family magic, but they can very quickly descend into chaos if you aren't prepared. If your little ones are sensitive to loud noises, consider investing in noise-cancelling headphones. Show your kids a few YouTube videos of fireworks displays and explain to them how the fireworks aren't scary, they're fun!

Bring a cooler of snacks (so many snacks) to help with the up-after-bedtime munchies, and make sure to bring those water bottles along. Enforce a nap earlier in the day, so that the late night doesn't become too much to handle. Many of these fireworks viewing spots don't have chairs. Bring some camping chairs along, or spread some cozy blankets. Dress warmly, as the temperatures tend to plummet after dark. We've chosen fireworks shows that are particularly family-friendly, so get ready for an epic night celebrating our country's birthday!

What to Bring to Your LA Fireworks Show

Bring snacks and water. We often add a thermos of coffee into the mix. Make sure you have cash on hand, as some parking is cash only, or vendors at the fireworks shows may only take cash. Bring blankets along, and maybe even a pillow or two for those who want to kick back and look up at the stars. Make sure everyone has an extra sweatshirt for the post-sunset chill.

Many attendees at these fireworks shows come decked out in patriotic fare. Glow sticks and glow jewelry are always a fun addition. As mentioned above, kids sensitive to loud noises may fare better with noise-cancelling headphones.

Parking & Crowds at Los Angeles Fireworks Shows

Parking situations vary, but many of the events listed below have paid lots available, or shuttle service to and from the fireworks site. As always, LA can get congested and parking can get frustrating. Make sure to arrive at the show of your choice with plenty of time to snag a good spot. If you are going somewhere nearby, consider using Uber, Lyft, or another ride-share service to minimize stress and avoid a parking dilemma.

Many of these fireworks shows quickly become crowded. Some displays allow you to view from your car (the Camarillo Outlets show is perfect for this) if you want to avoid pushing your way through and fighting for a spot in the grass. Free shows tend to have more patrons than paid shows- if minimal crowds are a priority, consider spending a few dollars to secure a more enjoyable experience.
