The parade for animal charities features more than 500 dogs in colorful costumes. Even for folks who don't normally venture down Long Beach way, some of these canine costumes really are worth the drive. The Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade claims to be the "World's Largest Halloween Pet Event."

This year's event is held in a new location: the former Belmont Pool grassy area and paths.

Those wanting to watch can bring a folding chair for second row seating, or rent one of the 450 front-row seats in the park ($5), starting at about 1 pm. The seats sold out in previous years.

Costumed kids and adults without dogs (humans can register for free) lead the parade at 2:25pm., followed by the dogs at 2:30pm. Participants can register to be in the human costume parade and/or dog costume parade at the orange registration tent in the park after 12:30 p.m.

Dogs (or their owners) pay $10-$35 to participate and can win what they love best: pet food. Proceeds from the day's events benefit Haute Dogs and Community Action Team (CAT).

There is a vendor fair and pet adoption fair in the park from 12:30 to 4:30pm.

There is free street parking in the area, and about 800 metered space in the Granada Ave. parking lot and the Belmont Pier parking lot.

No Native American or culturally insensitive costumes. Rabies and vaccinations must be current. No puppies under 4 months or w/o vaccinations. All dogs must remain leashed. See site for additional regulations.
