Weekday Event Picks for LA Kids: Star Wars, Ice Cream, and Cupcakes, April 13-17

4/13/15 - By Jacqueline Stansbury

It almost doesn’t seem fair that the kids are all back in school when there are free desserts available. Ben & Jerry are giving away their annual cone, and Sprinkles is celebrating its ten-year anniversary with free cupcakes. But wait, there’s more. The Autry and the Japanese American National Museum both have free days this week. There’s a Star Wars convention in Anaheim and kids under age six are free; everybody else pays the big bucks, but Luke and Leia (Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher) will be there so it’s worth it.

3. Art Crawl at the Zimmer – Wednesday
I WISH I had a two year old. Somehow, my kids never made it to this event, where an entire room is paintable and the wee ones use their hands and feet instead of brushes. Not for parents who don’t appreciate a good mess.

4. SpringFest – Thursday
Redondo Beach’s annual celebration of the winter thaw: this festival at Aviation Park is free, but tickets are required for attractions.

5. Star Wars Celebration – Friday
Definitely not free. Star Wars fans can convene in Anaheim at this event which is officially sponsored by LucasFilm. There are screenings, special appearances, and almost certainly a ton of stuff to buy.
